Information

“Ripley’s stunning portrait of Galileo Gold which he created shortly after the horse won the Qatar Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in 2015, perfectly captures the horse as well as the beauty of the Sussex countryside”

Ripley was approached by Goodwood to create portraits they could license for their 2015 & 2016 Festivals.

Galileo Gold was photographed in September 2015, six weeks after winning the 2015 Goodwood Vintage Stakes (aged two and a half years old).

The Landscape was photographed in November 2015, and shows an altered view of Goodwood and the Sussex Downs; where the horse is standing is actually the view from the top of the Grandstand which has been replaced with a foreground hill, elements of the landscape have also been altered in order to place all the main features in the same frame such as the racecourse and distant valley. In all some 27 pictures make up the environment (see; method). The final piece was composed throughout December 2015 and January 2016.
