About:

Big Buck's (foaled 16 April 2003) is a retired National Hunt racehorse trained in Britain by Paul Nicholls.

At the 2012 Cheltenham Festival, Big Buck's made history by winning 4 consecutive World Hurdles, confirming his status as the greatest staying hurdler in history. He was retired on 13 March 2014.

This portrait was taken a month after his retirement in April 2014, with background elements of Cleeve Hill and Cheltenham Racecourse captured shortly afterwards.

The final picture was completed by June that year and was featured in Ripley’s premier exhibition at The Jockey Club Rooms (Newmarket) in July 2014.

The portrait was revised in early 2019, this involved removing the leading rein, reworking the sky and adjusting colour tones.
